Ashwell is the current batting coach of the South Africa men’s team and a commentator for SuperSport in the SA20.
Having made his international debut for South Africa in 2002, he went on to represent his country over 100 times. Historically, he became the first non-white man to captain the South African Test team at the age of 29.
He finished his international Test career with 11 hundreds and an average of over 40 – the benchmark for a great player – and was part of the South African side that reached number one in the world.
After retirement, he coached the Cape Cobras in South Africa, before taking on the batting coach role for the Bangladesh national team. He is now a regular feature on South African television as a pundit and analyst.
