Shukri has recently been appointed as South Africa’s head coach across all three formats, having successfully led the Proteas to their first-ever appearance in the World Test Championship in June 2025.

The Cape Town native is a former provincial cricketer who represented Western Province as an all-rounder for over a decade.

His coaching career began domestically with roles at the Lions and Cobras (amongst others). His first national role was a brief stint with Uganda, before he was named head coach of Cricket South Africa’s National Academy.

In January 2023, he was appointed head coach of South Africa’s Test team, overseeing a pivotal period in the Proteas’ history.
